Turkey

We arrived in Turkey at midnight Saturday. Everything just grand. Only a couple of Gillyisms. My daughter supervised my packing. After seeing me pack sunbathing clothes (bikinis and cover ups) and evening clothes (dresses) she 'encouraged' me to take day clothes incase it either rained or we wanted to go out and about! So I agreed to take shorts. Unpacking my suitcase on arrival I realised I didn't have a single thing with me to wear with shorts!

We decided to set an alarm to make sure we didn't sleep through breakfast. I set my phone alarm for every day of the week. First morning we slept in, no alarm went off. How?? I set my alarm for everyday? On closer inspection I realised I'd set the days and time but didn't actually set it to on.

First night I got up for a wee about 4am, it was dark with just a little light from outside. As I walked to the bathroom it appeared the door was open. (It's a sliding door btw). Unbeknownst to me there is a full sized mirror on the outside of the door and what I could see was just a reflection of the room and not the inside of the bathroom. As I got to the door a naked woman suddenly appeared and I nearly poo'd myself. I let out one enormous scream from fright. Waking Mark up who then proceeded to wee himself from laughing!

We had a forecast of possible rain and thunderstorms on a couple of days. The Turks seem to agree that rain was expected on Monday. So we booked a spa treatment - body massage, exfoliation, facial and foot treatment. We arrived and were given cotton sarongs to wrap around us while we walked to the treatment room. We were shown to the steam room for 5 mins. When the therapist returned she'd undressed and had a cotton sarong wrapped round her too. Panic - was a Turkish massage that kind of massage? Yikes! We were taken to two big wet rooms, next to each other. Another therapist arrived. She put my sarong down on a tiled bed, and told me to lie on it. She then asked if I wanted my hair done? Eh? Confused I declined. Then she proceeded to pour gallons of hot water all over me! Next came buckets of frothy bubbles. I felt like I was in a car wash. With my hair pretty wet I agreed she could wash it. She washed and scrubbed me all over! I was truly exfoliated. We were then moved into a double, more recognisable, massage room. Now the body massage. On my stomach she then climbed onto the bed and straddled me, her legs either side of my torso. Well that's one way to pummel my back I guess. And boy did she pummel. I had to grit my teeth on occasions. Body and feet done she moved to my face. Facial done and mud face mask applied. And then we were done! Still with mud over our faces, hilarious. Anyway it was a great treatment and a very unusual experience. Just mental.

A holiday is having nothing to do and all day to do it.

My last week

Going on holiday to Turkey tomorrow. First sun holiday for Mark and I together since my 50th in 2019. I'm so excited. And it will be my last week of normal food for a while. I will be having fun and eating and drinking with abandon!

Virtually the moment I step off the plane home I need to start my liver reduction diet. The liver is in front of the stomach and gets in the way of surgery a bit. A very low sugar, low fat and low calorie diet can reduce the size of the liver to make the operation just a little easier. There are three types suggested. 1. Pretty much just drink milk for 2 weeks. 2. Do a meal replacement diet like Slim Fast 3. Normal food but following the sugar, fat and calorie rules. I'm going with the real food so I need to get prepared. Though the milk one is appealing cos at least you know exactly what to eat lol.

I need to tell you about my Monday. I burnt my face on the sunbeds (went up from 6 minutes to 9 minutes - big mistake). I dropped the office calculator and proper broke it. I needed to do the maths on surveys that had different scores. I had a complete brain fart and just couldn't remember how to calculate the mean averages! Luckily it came to me on my drive home, and I had a calculator on my phone! I was desperate for oranges so popped to Lidl. My phone payment was declined three times! And I had no other way to pay. Mark reminded me that I'd frozen my credit card the day before as I couldn't find my physical card! Tuesday morning I woke at 4am and couldn't get off to sleep again. Boy I was tired all day!

My week improved and Bella is a honey (aka annoying pest) and both cats are starting to get used to her. Hooray.

Have a lovely week and I'll have a margarita for you. See you next Friday x

Arguing with a fool proves there are two.
