Week one, tick
Current weight: 15st 2lbs
Weight loss zilch
This isn't as bad as it looks as at start of week (after weekend away) I was up, so I've lost that extra since Monday!
Oh my goodness, this working for a living is keeping me pretty busy! This is good because my priority for constant eating is way down low. I don't think of food, I'm not snacking as much, and I like it. So far (yeah yeah I know it's only a week, but...) I'm having my breakfast (healthy), my lunch (healthy), my supper (healthy) and maybe something later watching TV (not so healthy - but could be worse). Seems so easy - therefore I'm sure it won't last.
So? What you thinking about 10 potions of fruit & veg a week then? The new government guidlines. Sounds a lot, but then somedays 5 potions were a struggle - not that many on a pizza. I think its doable, of course you're buggered if you don't like F & V. Luckily I do. So lets see how doable it is. Think I might get the shits but hey, I won't get scurvy! :-)
So I got a call from the BP nurse. She has consulted with my GP regarding my 24 hour monitoring. So (as we all know) it is high. Right up there near too high - but (drum roll please) it has not gone past too high. So no drugs for me, but guess what? Go on, have a shot in the dark! Bet you can't guess what she said, ha ha. And I quote 'I need to make some lifestyle changes' - which is very coded nurse/medical speak for; lose weight, drink less, exercise more. And then she had the audacity to ask me if I would like some leaflets sent to me about these said changes!!! I bloody wrote the leaflets!
This week I learnt that working for a living, especially if you enjoy it, is pretty cool. I know I'm wearing my 'just started a new job, and everything is new and shiny' tinted glasses, but still.
Life is like underwear, a change is good.

Paid work!
So, I've been offered one of those job things! You know, lots of people have them... You go to a place of their choosing, do a bit of paper shuffling and then they give you money! Very excited. Especially as I've done this paper shuffling for free for 18 months and now they want to pay me. The catch? They want me to paper shuffle every day! I haven't worked full time for almost 25 years - how on earth will I cope? The good bit is that I'm hoping it will help my weight loss in so much as I'll be very busy paper shuffling I'll forget to eat as much. Bad bit is that there are always biscuits/chocolates in the office. A client of mine, only on Tuesday, gave me a box of Ferrero Rocher! My favourite (ha ha, yeah yeah they are all my favourite). Wish me luck
So this week I've had two celebrations for one big birthday and valentine's day. This means lots of food, alcohol and chocolate! I also had a 9 hour drive yesterday which was also not very losing weight friendly! At the end of the journey I found Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book in my sisters kitchen. I read it (always very interested to read about the next, new diet phenomena) and I liked it! Low carb, high protein & fat but you can eat fruit! Might give it a go once I get home. It sounds doable.
Anyway, my quiz! If you answered a) eat cake you'll be right! Got home from the doctors, put the kettle on and had a big slice of hubby's birthday cake because I felt sorry for myself. If you answered b) cried then you're not wrong, a few of them came later when I felt shit for eating the cake!
Be thankful for what you have, and work hard for what you don't!

Tiny steps forward, giant jump back!
Current weight : 15st 2lbs
Weight change : + 1lb
Total loss : Zilch
So a gain. No surprise there (for me that is). This weeks excuse is hubby's birthday. The night before I went to his work's flat for a sleepover and we had a special birthday meal (basically means we had pudding, after dinner chocolates and wine). Then on his birthday he came home after work and we had another birthday meal (see above) and of course cake. A couple of days later work is over, daughter is also home so we celebrate the birthday again, and our son's last exam and me applying for a 'proper' job (sounds like any excuse for a party) and had Indian food - yummy! Then the following day we have a birthday party with hubby's family - pizza, wine and more cake!!
Well my very scientific experiment re creme egg cheesecake? Yep, it proved nothing at all except there really are weirdos who do not like creme eggs!!! Nutters, the lot of you.
You are all waiting with baited breathe to find out about my netball match? The other team (senior year 3 - circa b. 2004 mean average 13 years) had not been told they were playing us. When we (mean average 35 years) started to arrive, their faces were a picture. I noticed lots of mouthing 'what the hell are they doing here?' Then one plucky lass asked her coach (and I quote) 'Why are the old wifeys here?' Well I'll give you old wifey! We won the first game! Ha! Overall, a draw - 2 games each! Not too shabby. And we only lost 2 because our best shooter a) took a break b) then took a defence position. I must say - the little ones (well quite tall ones actually) were very very good at scoring but us oldies were very good at defence. Anyway, it was great fun.
Yesterday I had my 24 hour blood pressure monitor fitted. Joys. Lots of questions about health (how much alcohol do I drink? I smiled, and said about 6 units a day - and as soon as the words were out my mouth I realised I must have had brain freeze for a minute because the allowance is 14 units :-) but a week not a day :-( oops! Smile gone. And she weighed me ... the scale of shame. Anyhow, on my drive home I was feeling a wee bit sorry for myself, in so much as, it's my fault I'm fat/got high BP/high cholesterol/can't run/etc etc etc. So when I got home I -
a) ate cake
b) cried
c) went to the gym
d) went to bed
e) all 4
Answers on a postcard (or my facebook page). (I bet you all answer e).
Anyway, this week I have another birthday. My father-in-law has a special birthday. It would be rude to tell you how old he is, but it includes a 7. So much drinking, eating and celebration. And we also have Valentine's day. (Happy Anniversary Sister & Brother-in-law). I hope you all have someone to love, and don't worry if you don't....
99% of socks are single and they are quite happy.

Small changes, big desserts
Current weight : 15st 1lb
Weight change : -0.5lb
Total loss : 1lb
Oh boy it's going to take me quite a few years at a rate of half lb per week! Note to self : must try harder! Although a friend reminded me this week that losing just 3.5lb per month (which is infact less that 1lb per week - so I'm kinda on schedule) is 3 stone in a year! Wow. Easy to forget that every little loss adds up to bigger loss.
The above conversation happened over dinner with a few friends. This was her dessert (I had apple crumble). Now I believe that quite a few people will look at the cheesecake and go wow! (Unless you are one of the weird people who don't like creme eggs - weirdos). And some of you will look at the picture and it will have no appeal at all. But my hypothesis is that (generally) the folk that don't take a fancy to this thousand + calorie laden dessert is naturally thin. But hey, that's just a thought - no idea how to prove it. Unless I go to a survey in the street - which I won't. My Facebook pals could leave a post if you like and I'll figure it out for next week. Go on...I know you're dying to prove me wrong!
So, netball? Next week we have our first match (I had no idea that this was part of the package) and it's at the local Academy, playing against their team i.e. teenagers! OMG! They will howl with laughter when they see us. Now don't get me wrong - my team are not made up with ladies as old and fat as me (I am actually the oldest and fattest) but still!? We are not teenagers by any stretch of the imagination. I think we will be annihilated.
So this week I learnt that small changes can have big results!
After Tuesday even the calendar goes W T F.
